Choosing the Right LED Light Bulb For Your Space & Fixture

LED light bulbs have become a design category in their own right, with fittings, shapes and light qualities to match. The fitting determines what'll work with your fixture, the shape adds to the fixture's design language, lumens set the brightness, and colour temperature controls the glow from warm and atmospheric to crisp and task-focused. The light bulb buying guide covers each of these in more detail.

B22 vs E27, Which Bulb Fitting Do You Need

B22 Bayonet

A B22 fitting features two small pins on the base that slot into the socket and twist to lock. You'll find it across everything from simple household fittings to classic Barn Light Shades.

E27 Screw Light Bulb

E27 is the screw in fitting commonly found across newer and contemporary lighting designs. It twists directly into the socket and appears throughout pendant lights, wall sconces and bedside lamps. An E27 LED bulb is also one of the easiest globes to buy by mistake, so check your fitting before you order.

The range also includes E14 small screw globes and GU10 twist-lock globes, covering more specialised lamps, spotlights and directional fixtures.

Vintage LED Filament Bulbs and Brightness

Vintage LED lights and filament bulbs often prioritise atmosphere over maximum brightness, especially in exposed pendants, wall lights and lamps where the globe forms part of the design. For more classic shapes, browse Edison bulbs.

For actual light output, look to lumens rather than watts. Two bulbs with the same lumen rating produce a similar amount of light, but a warm filament globe can feel more ambient than a standard LED lightbulb designed for general illumination.

Colour Temperature and Dimmable LED Options

The colour temperature of LED filament bulbs shapes the mood. Around 2200K gives an amber, candle-like glow, while 2700–3000K warm white suits bedrooms, living rooms and dining spaces. Cooler tones work better where sharper task light is called for. Dimmable LED bulbs let you match the brightness to the mood when paired with an LED-compatible dimmer, and your licensed electrician will confirm the right dimmer for your circuit.
