What Are Floodlights and How Do You Choose the Right One?

Floodlights are broad-beam lights designed to illuminate large outdoor areas. Commonly paired with high-intensity globes, they spread light across driveways, gardens and building exteriors for added visibility and security. Modern floodlights are energy efficient, long lasting, and available in a range of colour temperatures from warm white to cool white. Not all floodlights are the same, and it’s important to consider a number of factors when selecting the right one for your space.

How Bright Should Your Outdoor Floodlights Be? Understanding Lumens:

A key consideration is the brightness or lumens. This will determine how much coverage and illumination the light will project in your designated area. For a small patio or the entrance of your home look for lighting between 700 to 1,500 lumens. For driveways or garages anywhere between 1,500 to 3,000 lumens. For larger spaces or where security is your main focus look at lighting with 3,000 plus lumens.

Choosing the Best Colour Temperature for a LED Floodlight Outdoor:

• Warm White (2700K–3000K): Cozy, inviting feel for patios and gardens
• Cool White (4000K–5000K): Crisp brightness for security or task areas

Selecting the Right Beam Angle for LED Outdoor Floodlight Coverage:

When mounting floodlights look to fit them between 2.5 to 3 meters high to achieve an even distribution and reduce any glare. To keep your floodlight in good working order, remember to periodically to clean your lenses regularly to wipe any dust and cobwebs that can block light output.
