Easily identifiable by its black and yellow logo and urban industrial fit-outs, Guzman Y Gomez offers a break from the various fried options usually available in shopping centre food courts and popular shopping strips. Boasting clean recipes, slow cooked meats and 24-hour marinades, the Guzman Y Gomez ethos is fast, good quality Mexican food that is far less guilt-inducing than the average ‘cheat’ meal.
With franchise locations opening across Australia and now also popping up in America, Japan and Singapore, Guzman Y Gomez is disrupting the fast-food industry, and looking good doing it. The attention to detail in their food translates to the design of their restaurants. Far from attempting to create identical, clinical and strictly functional spaces, each Guzman Y Gomez interprets the core design principals differently, offering a sense of uniqueness while still maintaining the central brand identity.
Warm timber and dim industrial lighting are a common theme, alongside the ubiquitous yellow and black facades, colourful tiling, large-scale photos of Mexican street vendors, fake greenery and authentic Mexican artwork. Plastic crates, concrete blocks and colourful cushions feature in other locations, offering a point of difference.
Combining functional downlights with vintage-style industrial area lighting in the form of low pendants and wall lights. Festoon lighting adds ambience whether indoors or outside. The specialty lighting from Fat Shack Vintage has been a popular choice across the franchise network. At the Gouger Street location, customised Glass Ball Pendant Lights hang low over rustic booth seating, offering diffuse ambience day and night. At the Croydon purpose-built drive-through location, Industrial Bunker Cage pendants hang from the ceiling, complemented by the Industrial Double Bunker Wall Lamp.
