Project - Firebird
This Vietnamese restaurant promises a flaming good time.
A new offering from the team behind Hanoi Hannah, Firebird is serving up contemporary versions of Vietnamese inspired dishes from their converted warehouse space in Prahran.
Formerly a two-storey furniture warehouse, the now single-story restaurant has a distinctly fiery menu, focusing on grilled, charred and smoked dishes that live up to the Firebird name. Choose single dishes or go ‘all in’ for a selection of plates to share. The beer and wine on offer are a good combination of local and international labels, and the cocktail list has a distinctly Vietnamese flavour with the fire theme carrying through in the shape of charred and flamed fruits.
In keeping with its industrial past, the interior is rustic and dimly lit. The atmosphere is a unique blend of Hanoi hawker stall and trendy Melbourne warehouse conversion, with high ceilings, low pendant lighting and warm tones of orange and chartreuse throughout. Pull up a chair at the bar for a drink or settle in at one of the many tables for a meal.
Design firm Ewert Leaf converted the space, using warm colours and an eclectic mixture of rustic textures to create an inviting atmosphere. Vintage-style tiles and a coloured glass canopy gives the bar a nostalgic look, and low brick dividers define the dining spaces. Exposed rafters and rough concrete are juxtaposed against warm amber glass and dark timber floors for a cohesive look that is both chic and comfortable.
The space is lit by glowing wall projections, subtle back-lighting and low industrial cone pendants. The Cone Pendant Light is a Fat Shack Vintage staple of industrial style, designed to emulate mid-century warehouse lighting. Its cone shape allows soft pools of warm light to illuminate the tables with an ambient glow.
When converting an industrial space such as a warehouse, low pendant lighting can be used to offer intimacy in a large space. We offer several industrial-style shades that emulate the style of mid-century factory lighting that is ideal for this kind of project.
