Find the Ideal Picture Lights for Your Space

Picture lights or sign lights are used as artwork lighting around the home to showcase your treasured pieces. Artwork lights come in a selection of contemporary, classic, traditional styles and finishes. 

For the protection of your artwork its always important to not use halogen lights directed onto your painting or placed at a safe distance as these will over time damage and fade your piece. We recommend using LED bulbs which emit no UV and little heat. Modern LED lighting with a high CRI (90+) will be helpful for accurate colour rendering.  A warm colour temperature of (2700K-3000K) is perfect for enhancing warm tones in paintings (reds, oranges, skin tones) and provide the right ambiance in making the artwork the main focus.

How many LED Picture Lights should you use?

A common mistake people make is choosing a picture light that is too small, otherwise you will end up inconsistent illumination with dark corners or a central hotspot. A picture light should be half to two thirds the width of your artwork, excluding any frame. Generally you'll need one light unless you are lighting a large piece over a meter long than you'll position multiple picture lights with the lighting slightly overlapping to eliminate any dark gaps.

Where to install a Picture or Sign light?

A sign light or picture light should be positioned 15 to 17 cm above the top of the frame to ensure the spreads evenly across the artwork. The angle of the tilt is an important consideration to reduce any reflection from a glass frame. 30 to degrees is the optimum range. Also make sure you centre your lighting fixture perfectly for that professional look.
