With such a fresh-feeling and tidy home you’ll get plenty of rest and energy to pursue all of your other resolutions. So get your positive vibe on the go, and get working on these five resolutions for your home!

1. Clear the clutter

After all the parties are over, it’s time to tidy away the holiday decorations. Use this opportunity for decluttering your home and get rid of all the stuff that has accumulated last year. Separate things out into a “keep” and “throw” pile. Choose which things you’d like to keep on display. Then tidy away or file the things you want to keep but aren’t pretty enough to be out in the open. See if you can create some extra storage space if necessary. Finally, give the things you no longer need to others or to charity, or recycle / throw them away if really necessary. This resolution is an important one. You’ll be surprised how much peace decluttering your home brings to your home.

2. Give your interior an update

When your home gets cluttered, your interior style gets messy as well. Thankfully, there are a few quick home ideas fixes which can bring your rooms back to life. One of them is colour. Choose a main colour you’d like for your room, and then remove a few items that don’t work. After that, rearrange items with your colour to a more prominent position and add some easy items in such as throws, pillows, crockery or coloured light cords. 3. Go green

Save money and the environment by making green choices in your home. A few things to get started: turn the lights off when you leave a room, put devices on stand-by, heating low at night, air-con off when you leave, dry your clothes on a line, don’t turn on the washing machine / dishwasher until they’re completely full, and buy some LED or CFL bulbs. Some beautiful designs have been created in recent years, so this last one is an opportunity to add some style to your home as well!

4. Work out a system for cleaning.

For many people, cleaning the house is a nightmare. It often gets left behind because there’s much of it and not a lot of time to do it. On top of that, it’s not a particularly fun chore, either... Help yourself by working out a system to clean your house regularly. Decide what needs doing every day, and what can be done once a week. Be realistic! Cleaning and organising your entire home can’t be done in half an hour. So divide everything in separate tasks and get other people in your house to do their share. One task at a time, important things first.

5. Create a home budget

It’s hard to do, but if you want to maintain your home properly and give it some stylish updates on the way, creating a budget for these things is a wise idea. Have a look at your income, what type of house you have and what you think you spend on it on average every year. With a budget in place, you can prevent overspending and put aside money for major replacements and maintenance that comes up every few years.

These five home ideas will help you with stylizing, decluttering and organising your home this year. What new year’s resolutions do you have for 2015? Let us know in the comments below!
